Russian citizen escaped after months of being held Colombia

Voskanya Arcen Levoni disarmed a guerrilla from Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN), attacked the unit that was transporting him, wounded five rebels, and escaped, also wounded.

This was reported by the ELN itself in a statement.

Levoni, a Russian-Armenian national, had been kidnapped by the Colombian guerrilla group on November 5, 2016, according to the statement: “While he was collecting poisonous frogs to traffic them on the international market.”

On April 19, 2017, following a request from the Russian Embassy in Colombia, which reached the ELN through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), his release was underway.
